The frame and easel is made out of walnut, applied with Deguet’s signature repoussé brass work, which is inlaid with glass stones. Size: height 39 cm (15.34 inches); width at the broadest point 27.5 cm (10.82 inches).
The mirror is bevelled, in good condition with signs of use. This is a lovely rare mirror, Stock NO448
The peacock is a useful symbol for authority, strength, confidence, and even divinity due to its distinctive beauty, however it has varied interpretations in different cultures. Throughout history, most kings have aspired to be connected with divinity. The peacock didn’t become the official symbol of Art Nouveau until the 19th century, when it came to centre stage.
