An elegant folding table by the renowned French designer Émile Gallé, Nancy, France, c1890. This exceptional piece of furniture showcases intricate marquetry and meticulously carved legs, both crafted from a rich walnut wood. The beautiful marquetry is created using a combination of maple, rosewood, figured walnut, sycamore, birch, and snakewood, enhancing its overall charm and appeal.
 
One of the leaves on the table bears a faint script /scratched signature, a characteristic commonly found in tables created during the late 1900s or before. With its rarity and uniqueness, this remarkable piece is an ideal addition for collectors and admirers of Émile Gallé.
 
The dimensions of the table are as follows: it stands at a height of 108cm (42.5″), measures 60cm (23.6″) in length (including the frame, which extends to its widest point at 72.5cm (28.5″)), and has a depth of 45cm.
 
You can find this table featured in two publications: “The Paris Salons 1895-1914” by Alastair Duncan, Volume 3, on page 222, plate 22, and in “Galle Furniture” by Alastair Duncan and Georges Bartha, on page 241, plate 22/22a. During the time it was created, this type of furniture was often referred to as an artists table in literature of the era.
