Secessionist Decanter by J. J. Lobmeyr Vienna

 
A secessionist Art Nouveau decanter made by J. J. Lobmeyr in Vienna, Austria, circa 1895. This attractive decanter is rare and features the distinctive quatrefoil shape that is characteristic of Lobmeyr crystal. From the base to the top, it measures 35cm high and has a dimpled hollow blown stopper which is gilded, and a gilt mark at the base, height 35cm (13” 3/4), Stock-NO485.
 
Josef Lobmer’s company was established in 1823, after his children took over, they changed the name to J. & L. Lobmeyr. The company later formed partnerships with glass making companies in Bohemia, including Wilhelm Kralik of Meyrswalden.
 
J. & L. Lobmeyr created crystal chandeliers for clients such as Schönbrunn Palace and had a partnership with Thomas Edison to develop the first electric chandeliers in 1880. They also provided services for royalty and were honoured with the title of purveyor to the Imperial Court in recognition of their work.
