Yellow Faience Cat by E. Gallé

This is a fine example of a comical faience cat designed by Emile Gallé, decorated in yellow with blue circles and hearts. The cat was created at the Emile Gallé workshops located in Nancy, France, circa 1885.

The head is slightly looking up at an angle with green glass eyes; sometimes these cats were used in late Victorian times as door stoppers, so it is not easy to find one which has not been chipped or damaged.

The cat is signed E. Gallé and NANCY under the foot, height is 13 3/4inch (35cm).
