Very rare elegant gilt bronze paper knife by R. CARDILLE, after ‘FRANÇOIS RUDE’ decorated with the ‘Chant De Depart’ (starting song). You will find the same subject on the ‘Arc De Triomphe’ in Paris.

 

France circa 1890, excellent casting and condition, size is: 28.5cm long.

François Rude was a French sculptor, best known for the Departure of the Volunteers, also known as La Marseillaise on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. His work often expressed patriotic themes, as well as the transition from neo-classicism to romanticism.
