This is a large pewter pencil tray, manufactured by Urania in Maastricht, Netherlands, dates from the years 1903 to 1910.
The tray features a maiden’s head surrounded by lotus leaves. It is inscribed with the Urania mark and the design number 1010. The dimensions of the tray are 39 centimetres (15 inches) in length, stock-NO520
HISTORY
In 1902, Hubert Regout established “NV Kunstzinn” in Maastricht, Netherlands. The enterprise underwent a name change in 1903 to “Urania.” The factory specialised in the production of pewter goods until its closure in 1910. Many of its notable designs were created by the designer Friedrich Adler.
