A large vase by Émile Gallé (Établissements Gallé) from the early 20th century (circa 1908-1920). The vase features a striking scenic mountain backdrop titled “La Ligne Bleue des Vosges” (The Blue Line of the Vosges).
 
It vividly portrays layered alpine pine forests, a tranquil lake, and mist-covered distant mountains in rich violet, blue, and frosted white hues against a gentle yellow sky.

The series “La Ligne Bleue des Vosges” was created to commemorate the displacement of Alsatians to Lorraine during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The Franco-Prussian War was a military conflict between France and the German states, predominantly led by Prussia, occurring from July 19, 1870, to January 28, 1871.
