Emile Gallé (Établissements Gallé), Two Tier Table with Penguin Marquetry Design

We are excited to present to you a remarkable Emile Gallé (Établissements Gallé) table from the early 20th Century. This table, featuring Penguin Marquetry, is a rare find from a private Austrian collection. It is in excellent condition, with minor restoration work done.

The top of the table showcases intricate marquetry made from a range of high-quality wood veneers, including birch, rosewood, mahogany, walnut, chestnut, sycamore, and bird’s eye maple. The legs and frame of the table are crafted from beech wood.

Penguins are not a common theme in the Art Nouveau designs created by Emile Galle. This can be seen in a reference from the book “Galle Furniture” by Alastar Duncan and George Bartha, on page 147, which features an identical table on Plate 46.
