HISTORY
The company now known as WMF was initially established as Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer, functioning primarily as a metal repair workshop.
By the turn of the 20th century, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, it emerged as the preeminent global producer and exporter of metalware, particularly noted for its creations in the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style.
The Art Nouveau designs for WMF were predominantly developed in the company’s design studio, which was overseen by Albert Mayer from 1895 to 1915. Additionally, the firm also commissioned works from notable designers such as Peter Behrens and Hans Peter.
