Art Nouveau Occasional Table ‘Papillion’ by Emile Gallé

 
A French Art Nouveau two-tier occasional table, made by the renowned Emile Gallé workshop around 1900 in Nancy France.
 
Crafted from sycamore, walnut, rosewood, and elm wood, the marquetry depicts the papillon (butterfly) motif that symbolises transformation and beauty. The finely sculpted legs, made of beech wood, take on a plant shape, typical of the Art Nouveau style.

 
Signed “Gallé” in marquetry on the top, height 73cm, width 71cm, depth 40cm.
